Why I Fly 2,500 Miles to Groom Dogs

I live in Colombia. South America.

And every 30 days, I get on a plane and fly to Lynchburg, Virginia. Not for vacation. Not to visit family. I fly there for one reason: to groom my fur babies.

Yes, I call them that. After years of grooming the same dogs, month after month, they're not "clients." They're family. I know their quirks, their favorite treats, the spot behind their ears that makes their leg kick. I know which ones get nervous during nail trims and which ones fall asleep during the blow dry.

That's the kind of groomer I am. And honestly? It's not for everyone.

Why I Do This

People ask me all the time: "Why don't you just groom locally? Why fly thousands of miles every month?"

Because these dogs β€” and their owners β€” trust me. We've built something over years. The dogs know me. They're calm with me. They don't have to start over with a new groomer who doesn't know their history, their anxieties, their coat patterns.

And their owners don't have to worry. They know exactly what they're getting. They know I'll take my time. They know their dog will come back happy, not traumatized.

That relationship is worth the plane ticket.

What "Niche Groomer" Actually Means

I don't try to be everything to everyone. I specialize in anxious dogs, doodles, and dogs who need patience. I take one dog at a time. I never rush. I never cage. And I work with a small group of loyal clients who book with me month after month, year after year.

This isn't a business model that scales. That's the point.

I Might Not Be the Groomer for You

I'm going to be honest β€” because I'd rather be upfront than waste your time.

I'm NOT the right groomer if you...

  • Want a new groomer every month β€” I'm looking for long-term relationships with dogs I see regularly. If you're going to shop around constantly, we're not a fit.
  • Need last-minute appointments β€” I'm only in town certain weeks, and those fill up fast. If you need someone who can squeeze you in tomorrow, I can't help.
  • Want the cheapest option β€” I'm not PetSmart. I charge what my time, expertise, and travel costs are worth. If price is your main factor, there are cheaper options.
  • Are in a rush β€” I don't do "quick grooms." Every dog gets my full attention for as long as they need. If you're watching the clock, you'll be frustrated.
  • Don't value consistency β€” The whole point of what I do is building a relationship. If that doesn't matter to you, you won't see the value.

I'm not saying any of those things are wrong. Some people genuinely need a convenient, quick, affordable groom β€” and that's fine. There are great groomers who serve that need. I'm just not one of them.

I AM the Right Groomer If...

We're a great fit if you...

  • Have an anxious or reactive dog β€” Dogs who've had bad experiences elsewhere often thrive with me. One-on-one attention in a quiet space makes all the difference.
  • Want the same groomer every time β€” Your dog will always see me. Not a rotating cast of employees. Me.
  • Value patience over speed β€” I take breaks when dogs need them. I never force a stressed dog through a groom. The dog's comfort comes first.
  • Have a doodle or high-maintenance coat β€” I specialize in coats that need real expertise. Proper doodle grooming is an art, and I've spent years mastering it.
  • Plan ahead β€” If you can book a few weeks out and commit to a regular schedule, we'll work beautifully together.

My Clients Aren't Looking for a Service

They're looking for their dog's person.

Someone who remembers that Bella doesn't like her paws touched until she's had a few minutes to settle in. Someone who knows that Max needs to sniff around the yard before he'll calm down. Someone who texts them a photo mid-groom because they know how much they miss their pup.

That's what I offer. Not a grooming "service." A relationship.

And yeah, it means flying 2,500 miles every month. It means limited availability. It means I'll never be the highest-volume groomer in Lynchburg.

But the dogs in my chair are happy. Their owners are happy. And I get to do work that actually matters to me.

That's worth more than scaling up ever could be.

Want to See If We're a Fit?

If what I've described sounds like what you're looking for, reach out. Tell me about your dog. I'll be honest about whether I think we're a match.

And if we're not? No hard feelings. I'll point you toward other great groomers in the area. The goal is your dog getting great care β€” whether that's from me or someone else.
