Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about grooming with Fancy Pet Salon

How often should I get my dog groomed?

It depends on your dog's breed and coat type. Most dogs do well with professional grooming every 4-8 weeks. Curly or long-haired breeds like Poodles, Doodles, and Shih Tzus typically need grooming every 4-6 weeks, while short-haired breeds can go 6-8 weeks between grooms.

What's included in a full groom?

A full groom includes bath with premium shampoo and conditioner, blow dry, haircut/styling, ear cleaning, nail trim, sanitary trim, and gland expression if needed. Your dog gets one-on-one attention from start to finish.

Do you use cages or kennels?

No! Fancy Pet Salon is completely cage-free. Your dog receives one-on-one attention throughout the entire grooming process. They're never left waiting in a crate or kennel.

How long does a grooming appointment take?

Most full grooms take 1.5 to 2.5 hours depending on your dog's size, coat condition, and the style requested. Bath-only appointments are typically 45 minutes to 1 hour.

What if my dog is anxious or nervous about grooming?

Anxious dogs are welcome! The cage-free, one-on-one environment is much calmer than busy grooming shops. We take breaks when needed, use gentle handling techniques, and never rush nervous dogs. Many anxious dogs become much calmer after a few visits.

Do you groom puppies?

Yes! Puppies can start grooming as early as 8-12 weeks old, after their initial vaccinations. Early grooming experiences help puppies become comfortable with the process. We offer gentle puppy introduction sessions.

What areas do you serve?

We serve the greater Lynchburg, Virginia area including Forest, Bedford, Madison Heights, and Smith Mountain Lake. We travel to Lynchburg every 4-6 weeks for grooming trips.

How do I book an appointment?

You can book through our contact form, call or text us directly, or message us on Facebook. We recommend booking as soon as a trip is announced since spots fill up quickly!

What if my dog has mats?

We handle matted dogs with care and compassion. Minor mats can often be brushed out. Severe matting may require shaving for your dog's comfort and safety — tight mats pull on skin and can hide skin issues. We'll discuss options with you before proceeding.

Do you offer any special services?

Yes! We offer creative pet dye (safe, pet-friendly colors), spa treatments, deshedding treatments, teeth brushing, and specialty shampoos for sensitive skin. Ask about add-ons when you book!
