Everything you need to know about keeping your Shih Tzu clean, comfortable, and looking adorable.
Shih Tzus were bred as companion dogs for Chinese royalty, and that luxurious double coat shows it. But what looks gorgeous in photos requires real commitment to maintain. As a small breed, the Shih Tzu thrives in our calm, one-on-one grooming environment.
The Shih Tzu coat is technically hair, not fur — similar to human hair, it grows continuously rather than shedding seasonally. This means regular haircuts are necessary, not optional.
Shih Tzus have a soft, dense undercoat beneath a longer outer coat. Both layers need attention. When the undercoat isn't properly brushed out, it mats against the skin — even if the outer coat looks fine.

| Long show coat | Every 2-4 weeks | Daily |
